Turn miles into smiles

Eastwood Volunteer Bureau and Food Bank desperately need volunteer car drivers to help residents in North Broxtowe who don't have access to transport for crucial appointments and visits.

The scheme provides alternative transport for those who don’t have anyone to help with everyday journeys to doctors, opticians, hospitals, shopping, social events, day trips, or simply visiting family and friends.

“Not everyone has a family or friends to provide them with transport and many just can’t afford a taxi for things like appointments, shopping or visiting. Providing transport can make the difference between people staying in their own homes or going into care.” said Rachel Laurenson, Manager of Eastwood Volunteer Bureau and Foodbank said

If you like helping people, work part-time, are a parent or are retired or just simply have some spare time you can get involved. All you need is a few hours, have your own vehicle and you can and make a positive impact on people’s lives. Drivers receive 45p per mile for each journey made. All drivers are DBS checked and can choose how long and when to volunteer.

“Being a volunteer driver is really fulfilling and it allows me to meet new people, hear their stories and make a difference to someone’s day” said Colin, EVB Volunteer driver.

Volunteer driver criteria is simple:

As a volunteer you will get a lot out of the experience too, give back in the community, improve your own well-being and meet new and interesting people.
