Transport Scheme
Our Community Transport Scheme is here to help Eastwood and North Broxtowe residents, who can’t use public transport, to get around. Whether you’re unable to get on a bus due to mobility issues, live in an area with limited bus services, or are struggling with the cost of taxis, we’re here to offer a friendly, reliable alternative.
We regularly provide transport to hospital appointments in Nottingham and Derby, GP and dental visits, opticians, shopping trips, social groups and family visits.
Thanks to our wonderful volunteer drivers, we’re able to offer our safe, friendly and reliable Transport Scheme to local residents.

Who can use the Transport Scheme?
Our Community Transport Scheme is designed for people living in North Broxtowe, including Eastwood, Newthorpe, Giltbrook, Awsworth, Cossall, Nuthall, Watnall, Underwood, Kimberley and Brinsley.
The Scheme is for:
- anyone isolated geographically where no bus services are available.
- vulnerable and elderly people
- in certain circumstances people unable to afford taxis
Please note: All passengers must be able to get in and out of a car without being lifted or needing a lot of assistance. Our vehicles cannot accommodate wheelchair users.
If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, please get in touch – we’re always happy to talk through your situation and see how we can help. There is no obligation, and it’s free to register

What makes it so special for me is the conversations along the way. You hear all about people’s lives, their stories and experiences. It’s fascinating, and I feel very privileged that people are willing to share those moments with me.
People often say to me, "You do an amazing job, you work so hard." But I always tell them it’s not just me - I couldn’t possibly do it on my own. We’re incredibly fortunate to have a fantastic, supportive and dedicated team behind the scenes who make everything possible.
Without our volunteers, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the services we do.
How it works
1
Register
Before your first journey, you’ll need to register for our Community Transport Scheme
Membership is completely free – we just need to take a few details to ensure the service is right for you. You can do this by phoning our office or popping in for a chat.
2
Book
To arrange a trip, please call our Transport Team on 01773 535 255
Our Transport Coordinatorm Melanie, is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am–1pm – you can leave a message outside these hours.
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible (except in emergencies).
All bookings must be made through the office, not directly with drivers.
3
Journey
On the day of your trip, your Volunteer Driver will collect you from home and take you safely to your destination. This could be a hospital appointment in Nottingham or Derby (one-way only for main hospitals), a GP or dental appointment, shopping, visiting family, or attending a local group or social event.
If a main carer is travelling with you, they can travel free of charge.
Cost
- Membership is free
- £2 booking fee per trip
- £2 extra if waiting time exceeds one hour
- 45p per mile (calculated from the driver’s home to you, to your destination and back)
- Costs are shared if more than one passenger
Our volunteer drivers cannot accept tips, however, donations to the Bureau are always welcome and help us continue supporting local residents.
