About Eastwood Volunteer Bureau & Food Bank
The organisation began as a Volunteer Bureau in the 1980’s and moved into its current premises in 2002. The bureau has evolved to offer three vital local services:
Located just behind the library at Wellington Place, Eastwood, it’s slightly off the main road but still in the heart of Eastwood.
What we do
The Bureau aims to support at-risk, vulnerable and older people to live more fulfilled and independent lives in the community.
With only four part-time employees we rely heavily on over 45 volunteers who help deliver our services. Our Volunteers include:
All volunteers must undertake a simple Disclosure and Barring check. This helps make sure they can work with vulnerable people and that our service users are protected.
Our fabulous team
We couldn’t do what we do without our incredible team.
From our in-house Befriending Coordinator, to our weekly food packers, and everyone in between. Our team feels like family, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them.
Space for people to meet
As an established part of the local community, as well as our three core services, we have rooms for hire for community groups and other organisations.
Regulars include Knit & Natter and a local craft group, who make use of our facilities to while away a few hours in the company of friends. During their time at the Bureau they produce beautiful hand-knitted garments, blankets, and other crafty stuff.
The Change, Grow, Live (CGL) team also use our rooms for meetings and group sessions.
Our room hire service helps with the overheads for the bureau.
Continuing the great work we do
In the last few years, we have undergone a bit of a facelift which has included a full review of our operation to introduce a fairer and more robust service for the community. This has ensured that we continue to use our funding wisely and that our services are not abused.
